Today begins the second phase of our journey, a 7-day cruise from Lisbon to Barcelona aboard Seabourn Ovation, a small, 300-stateroom all-suite ship with a crew complement of 200 that can access smaller ports inaccessible to the mega-ships. Our itinerary begins with a day at sea enroute to Gibraltar followed by port calls to Tangier, Morocco Almeria, Spain, Alicante, Spain, Valencia, Spain and ending in Barcelona.

We boarded at noon and set sail at 5pm heading south by southeast to the Malaga straight and Gibraltar.

Accommodations are first-rate. Every suite has a private balcony and enclosed bedroom area. The water pressure in the shower is better than at our house in NC. Seabourn really does it right.

Tuesday October 3, 2023 Penha Longa Resort, Sintra After an easy 6-hour flight from Boston we arrived at Lisbon on time, breezed through customs and immigration and took an Uber to the Ritz-Carlton Penha-Longa (pronounced Penya Long Ha!) in the outskirts of Sintra , one of the most picturesque locales in Portugal. Travel tip - Uber from the airport is 1/2 the price of the local taxis! Less than 10 minutes away is the romanticist period  Palácio da Pena  perched atop Sintra Mountain overlooking the town of Sintra. Tomorrow we will reconnoiter and plan a day of sightseeing around Sintra with Taz and Tina when they arrive on Thursday. Meanwhile we will be sampling the indigenous Portuguese cuisine and will provide a gastronomic report. Now it's time to crash and reset our circadian clocks.
